Earlier this September, grade 12 students from SMAK ONE went to Yogyakarta for their “Karya Wisata” trip from the 3rd until 6th September 2024. It was a fun trip both for students and the teachers. Unlike last year’s trip which was in early October, this one was way earlier, just after a difficult exam week.
The trip started on Tuesday, September 3. At around 7 PM, 12th graders and teachers gathered at Pasar Senen train station. The students all wore the PE uniform as they waited for around 2 hours before being able to board the overnight train. The train ride was quiet as most students and teachers slept. However, there were also students who went to the train's canteen to eat, play cards, or just have a little chat.
The next day, the train arrived at Tugu Station at around 5 AM. Next, everyone had breakfast at a restaurant and changed clothes into the Penabur uniform to prepare for the campus visit to UPN Veteran Yogyakarta. The campus visit itself wasn’t long and consisted of a presentation about the university. After that, it was time for lunch. Following lunch, the students and teachers visit Candi Prambanan. There were many tour guides giving explanations about Candi Prambanan itself. The students then went into the Candi to take pictures and explore the site. In the evening, the students and teachers then visited HeHa Skyview. It was a unique place with many restaurants selling foods, snacks, and drinks and it had a nice view of the natural surroundings. The students stayed there for quite a long time and ordered food and drinks for themselves before returning to the hotel. At the hotel, the students were permitted to order food online and have a couple hours of free time before resting for Thursday.
Thursday started out really exciting as it was time for the Merapi Lava Jeep Tour. Firstly, the jeep made two stops. First at Museum Sisa Hartaku, which was actually the remains of a house destroyed by a past Merapi explosion. At the site, we can see the belongings of the original owner of the house. Next, the jeep stopped at Wisata Batu Alien, which was basically a site which had a very big rock thus named Batu Alien. The natural surroundings of the site were also quite beautiful. Then it was time for the anticipated Kali Kuning, where the jeep went full speed into a river a couple of times. At the deepest section of the river, the jeep was even half submerged. After lunch, everyone went to a bakpia shop and a local clothing store to buy authentic Jogja merchandise and cuisine. After that, everyone had a couple of hours of free time at Malioboro.
On Friday, everyone got ready and packed their bag to go back home. It was an afternoon train so it was more noisy and active although some still slept. The train arrived at Pasar Senen station at around 6 PM. Although it was quite brief, the trip created many memories and stories as it was also the last school trip for the 12th graders.
