Over the last few months, our team participated in a highly anticipated 2022-2023 global entrepreneurship competition held by Scarsdale High School. This endeavour led us to create a product that could tackle specific problems in reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The process gave us an invaluable opportunity to sharpen our critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Several countries, such as China, Italy, Argentina, and the US states like Florida, New York, and Virginia attended the event, enabling us to converse and share our experiences about our own country. We were also given an opportunity to share our design plan with each other and get comments on how we could improve our product, allowing us to enhance our product even further.
The product that we came up with is called the trash segregator.
Our product was aimed at tackling inefficient waste management observed in our surroundings. The idea came up when Bryan, one of the members of our group when passed a landfill that affected the environment and the people around it. The landfill was near a river, and the river was contaminated with trash due to excessive waste not being managed properly. This product was made to potentially destroy trash, more specifically, food waste. The food waste could be put inside our product where blades would destroy them into smaller pieces, letting them fall into the net, then separate the physical material with the liquid to be composted. Composting is a main solution to solve excessive food waste, and our product would help make composting a lot easier for people.
We presented our product and offered a live demonstration to the panel to show its intended use, how it works and how it could tackle our problem. The demonstration highlighted its function and demonstrated our product in action, including disassembling it to demonstrate that even individuals with minimal machine operating skills could easily operate it.
Overall, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the competition committee as they have helped us improve our product and make this competition successful and fun for all the participants. Additionally, we thank our school PENABUR Secondary Kelapa Gading for allowing us to join such a competition to equip us with crucial entrepreneurial skills and a chance to display our pitching skills in front of a wide audience. Lastly, we would like to extend our special thanks to our teacher Ms Windy for accompanying us throughout the competition and giving us important feedback to reflect on our product, enabling us to enhance its efficiency and practicality.
