On December 8, 2024, SMAK 1 PENABUR School held a memorable Christmas event that brought together students, teachers, and staff in a joyous celebration of the season. This year’s theme, “Genesis: Bersukacitalah Raja Damai Telah Lahir,” beautifully captured the essence of Christmas. The event blended worship, fellowship, entertainment, and acts of kindness, reflecting the true spirit of the holiday.
The day began with a heartfelt worship session led by the school’s worship team, including Pak Michael Adi, Bu Natalia, Crescendo, and Smukiez CHOIR. Students sang Christmas carols and hymns, filling the auditorium with joy and reverence, setting the tone for the rest of the day. This was followed by an inspiring sermon from Pastor Cordelia, who shared the message of hope, love, and peace from Luke 2:1-20, reminding everyone that Christmas is about giving, kindness, and love.
The event then featured a heartfelt video message from the Head of BPK PENABUR Foundation, expressing gratitude for the unity of the Penabur family. Pak Lim Tjo Hin also took the stage to share a warm speech, emphasizing the importance of togetherness and giving. Following this, a video from KAUM, a social service organization that supports Mentawai students, moved everyone in the room. Students then raised funds for the cause, learning the value of giving back.
Next came a lively and fun-filled segment led by students. Ten participants took part in a relay dance challenge, passing on increasingly difficult dance moves to one another. The laughter and enthusiasm of the crowd created a joyful atmosphere, bringing everyone closer together.
The highlight of the event was a series of stunning performances. Students showcased their talents with orchestral pieces from SYC, a Christmas carol from Smukiez Choir, and a joint dance by FIRST and Serenity, affectionately called Ferenity. Even the teachers (Recehnity) joined in, performing a dance to “Praise.” The energy was high, and each performance was met with applause, showcasing the community’s spirit and creativity.
In a beautiful act of generosity, the school organized the distribution of essential bags for underprivileged families in the local community. These bags, filled with food, toiletries, and household items, eased the burden for many, especially during the festive season. The school also took time to recognize the hard work of its staff, who were celebrated with gifts and appreciation for their dedication to creating a nurturing environment.
As the event drew to a close, students and staff left with full hearts, reminded of the true meaning of Christmas: faith, community, and generosity. The SMAK 1 Penabur Christmas celebration was a day of joy, laughter, and love—values that will continue to guide the community into the new year.
