10 Step Korean Skin Care : Is It Necessary?

English Day - 16 March 2022

One of the most famous trend of skin care until today. You may have seen alot of articles and videos floating around the internet in recent years concerning the “10 step of Korean skin care routine”. If you haven’t heard about this trend , the “ 10 step of Korean skincare” is a shorthand for the concept of the long and multilayered skin care routine which K-beauty popularized all over the world.

This trend became more popular when people saw the results of this routine from youtubers , tiktokers and Kpop idols. The routine consist of oil-based cleanser , foaming or water-based cleanser , exfoliator , toner , essense , serum or ampoule , sheet mask , eye cream , mosturaizer , sleeping mask ( nightime ) and sunscreen ( daytime ).

This routine starts from the lightest formula and finishes with the thickest. The main goal of this routine is to get the enough hydration for your skin , lock the hydration and moisturaize your skin. After this goal is achieved , most people will expect to have glowing skin or glass skin.

This skin condition is what many people want , especially gen z. But many experts and skincare entusiast think that this routine is not necessary and there are some missed conceptions. The first one is quality over quantity. It’s possible to achieve a healthy skin using 3-4 products and you shouldn’t have to buy expensive products for a better result. The second , there is a difference between necessity and desire.

It’s true that plenty of people especially teenagers enjoy skin care as part of their self-care routine but there are people who don’t really have the time to do it. Everyone has different skin condition. The 10 step routine could be optimal if all ingredients are compatible , stay active on the skin when layered , penetrate and applied consistently. Using too much products can also irritate and damage your skin.

The last part is you can change the amount of step , you can either cut down or add up the step. The “10 step Korean skin care routine” is a big trend with the marketing support. We don’t have to do the exact thing to achieve a healthy skin.

There are people who only use 3-4 steps and healthy skin. We can adjust our own routine as a part of our self-care or as the way we take care of our skin. Because life style and genetics play a bigger role than skin care. Lastly , don’t compare yourself with other people because we are unique in our own way and skin care is genderless.
