Our Singapore Immersion Trip
Berita BPK PENABUR Jakarta - 28 February 2025
Going to Singapore for the second time had always been my dream, and this time, it finally came true! I went there with other Penaburians from different schools.
At first, it felt a bit awkward, but once we arrived at Yishun Secondary School, everything became fun. I was paired with my buddy, Kaelyn, and we became friends on the very first day. Our first lesson was Mandarin class. It was quite difficult because the teacher spoke entirely in Mandarin from start to finish. But thanks to the active and enthusiastic students, wedidn’t feel bored at all.
The second lesson was cooking class, which was my favorite! The teacher divided us into groups, and we made Chapati with Keema. Honestly, I was hesitant to try it at first because I was afraid of the ‘spicy’ sauce. But when I finally gave it a try, I loved it! It wasn’t as spicy as I thought.
In the Science class, the teacher gave us an exercise paper. For me, learning physics in English was quite challenging, but we managed to get through it together.
When lunchtime came, we were super excited to explore the canteen. I was a bit nervous when buying food because I always take too long to decide. Luckily, Kaelyn helped me by explaining the menu. After eating, we changed clothes and hopped on the bus to explore the city.
Day 2: Our Last Day at Yishun
The next day, we went back to Yishun to meet our buddies for the last time. The first lesson was Science again, followed by English class, where I joined Kaelyn and her friends to work on a group project.
In the art class, we were asked to draw something from random objects, like leaves for the head, a branch stick for the hands, and a rock for the torso. I remember drawing a pretty unique character!
Our last class was PE. Just like in our school, we started with warm-up exercises. Then, we ran five laps with a timer. It was tiring, but fun!
After class, we went to the canteen for lunch. I was a bit anxious about choosing what to eat, but Kaelyn helped me again. We took our last photos together, exchanged souvenirs, and added each other on social media. Before leaving, we did a final handshake and a group photo.
Day 3: A New Experience at Woodlands
On the third day, we visited Woodlands Secondary School. In the cooking class, my group made pandan bread. After that, we played traditional Singaporean games, which was super fun! At the end of the session, I gave my buddy a souvenir, and she gave me a Woodlands keychain.
For the rest of the day, we made memories and took lots of photos. It was truly one of the best weeks of my life! Welearned about different cultures, experienced how disciplined and fast the students were, and even discovered new foods that I never thought I’d like.
But the best part? We made new friendships that we’ll never forget. Until now, my buddy and I still text each other. Hopefully, I can visit Singapore again someday!
