"Mystery of A Chest"
Mrs Barthilow had twelve children, 6 boys and 6 girls. Mr Barthilow has passed away a few months after the youngest was born. Mrs Barthilow had to work harder on their farm to support her family. All the boys helped her on the farm and the girls worked in the house.
This morning the sun shone brightly and Mrs Barthilow went to the farm to harvest their potatoes. She took her hoe and swung it to dig the soil. ‘Tuc!!!!’… Suddenly her hoe hit on something harder. “John! I think there’s something harder over there” Mrs Barthilow screamed to his oldest son. “What is it, mom?” “I don’t know.” Mrs Barthilow and her son dug deeper and deeper. “Mom, it’s a chest!”
They were shocked when they found the chest, they hastily went to their house and told everybody about what happened. “Open it, open it!” Jane, the youngest daughter, screamed merrily. “But I think we need a key, it’s locked” Said the second oldest son, Ben. “You are right! I’ll go find the key then” John offered himself.
After that, John came back to the hole he and his mother have dug earlier. He checked whether there are any keys or not, until he saw something covered with a gauzy fabric. He opened the fabric and there was a key, he brought the key and went back to their house. “Guys, I found it! Let’s open this chest together” shouted John with a key in his hand. Then, they tried to open the chest with that key, and it worked. Inside the chest, there were laid a crimson book, they turned the page by page, but all of it was merely a blank page. “So, it was just a notebook? Not some treasure thingy?” Uttered Ben with a dismayed face. “Yeah, apparently it was just a notebook,” Shane, the second oldest daughter, agreed.
They decided for the third oldest daughter, Mary, to keep the book. She took the book to her room and started to write about what happened today. The next day, everyone was surprised by gleaming crimson gems that suddenly appeared in the chest. “It wasn’t here before! Did someone put it here?” asked Mrs Barthilow, none of them said a word, until Mary uttered something “I wrote about how I wish there was some treasures inside the chest in the book yesterday.” They all looked at her unbelievably. “Hey, there are 13 gems, why don’t we all take one?” Ben proposed an idea. They all agreed and take the gem one by one.
When everyone has taken the gem, suddenly everything was covered in a fog, and when the fog was gone, they weren’t in their house anymore. They showed up in a world full of a living dolls, then one of the dolls noticed and come to them. “Hi there! What are you guys? I think you aren’t from here?” The doll asked. Mrs Barthilow explained how they got here, “Ah I see! You guys can come back to your world just by simply rubbing the gem, but you could stay here a little bit longer if you wanted to,” The doll explained. They seemed sacred at first, but then decided to stay a little bit longer here, in the doll’s world.
The doll then showed them around, there was so many fascinating places, even the foods looked so scrumptious. The time passed by and it started to look dark, the 13 of them decided to go home. The doll gave them a plushie and said goodbye, then they all rubbed the gem and got back to home. They all had a good time and they wanted to visit that world again someday in the future.
Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid to visit new places and go on an advanture
