Hi, I’m Fernando Jose, batch 4 alumni of SMAK PENABUR Kota Tangerang. Right now, I am in the third semester in my study pursuing bachelor of communication at one of the private universities in Jakarta. Besides being a college student, I also do part-time modeling, and thank God, I’ve been given the opportunity to hold a pageant title representing the capital city, DKI Jakarta in the upcoming Mister Teen Indonesia 2020.
Studying in SMAK PENABUR Kota Tangerang made me learn so much both in knowledge and life lessons. Since I was a kid, I have always been focused on my academic achievements. I am a person who believes that hard work will always pay off and that is why I always make sure that I am the hardest-working person in the room. When I was in high school, I was so focused on my studies and always thrive to be the best. It shows when I have the chance to participate in several English debate competition representing SMAK PENABUR Kota Tangerang. I also participated in National Science Olympiad and graduated with one of the best national exam score in 2019. Generally, PENABUR has made me a better person not only in terms of knowledge and academic achievements but also social skills and most importantly, characters. I’ve been taught to be honest, discipline, punctual, strong, care, and to be grateful. And I realized that character is the most important thing to get you far in life.
By being a ‘bookworm’ throughout my life, I have never imagined myself being in front of the camera and a pageant titleholder. Competing in a pageant was never in my plan, but having a purpose to influence other people is something that I really want to do. I really want to share my stories that being where I am today is never easy. Not because of my achievements, but because of surviving common teenagers’ problems, which is bullying. Throughout my school life, I’ve been seen differently because I am so focused on my studies, I am not good at sports, or even because of having super bright skin which I do not choose to be. From my title and experiences, I want to use my voice to share my stories about overcoming school problems like this which is relevant to the issue that is facing teenagers nowadays. I am not having the title for nothing, but to raise my voice and contribute to our country’s young generation. I am so grateful to have a platform to raise awareness about the issue that is relevant and close to my heart. I don’t want to be a person who only stands for himself, but stand for others who can’t stand for themselves.
