Watson got an invitation from Holmes to look into a case and solve it. While they were on the train, Holmes explaining all the things he had known about the case, it's a about a murder of Charles McCarthy. So John Turner and Charles McCarthy were neighbors in Boscombe Valley. One day, McCarthy told his servant that he's going to meet someone at Boscombe Pool at 3 pm. But he never came back alive.
2 witnesses saw him as he go down the lake. The first one said he saw James (McCarthy's son) carrying a gun and following his dad. Besides the two of them, there was Patience Moran who saw James and Charles McCarthy were arguing at the lake and having a violent quarrel. She was frightened and ran home to tell her mother. But soon after that, James came to the lodge with his body full of fresh blood but without his gun, told her that he had found his father dead in the wood. McCarthy had been hit in the head with a blunt instrument. And it was proven that the wound was from the butt of James' gun. The following day, James was arrested for his father's murder
