Karya Siswa : 'Ultra-Cycling Tour Around Jakarta' by James 12 Mipa 3

One of the moments that I am most proud of is actually when I managed to finish a 100 kilometers cycling tour challenge around Jakarta. This event was titled “Gran Fondo” which defines a really long cycling ride. This event was held on the 6th of February 2022 by a cycling community that I took part in. I took part in this long cycling ride along with my father, who shared the same hobby with me. At first, we were reluctant to take part on this event. But we decided to take on the challenge.

It was 4 o’clock in the morning. We had already been preparing for the cycling ride, and that included checking the tires and oiling the gears. After all was ready, we loaded our bicycles inside the car and drove to the parking area at Lot 32 SCBD. After we had arrived at the parking area, we saw several of our cycling community members had just arrived as well. After we unloaded our bikes and wore our helmets, we directly went to the assembly point, which was at the MINI Senopati Dealer. About fifty of the participants had already gathered there. After waiting for around 40 minutes, the signal to begin was given.

Our route was literally cycling through almost every part of the city, consisting of going around the Central, East, North, West, as well as the South part of Jakarta, and finally returning back to the starting point. At the beginning, both me and my father were riding together with the second group. But unfortunately, an accident happened to a group member. My father went on to help her and told me to go on first. We met each other again during a water break in Jatinegara. After that we went on to finish the cycling route together, going through Kelapa Gading, Pluit, Sunter, Grogol, Senayan, Pondok Indah, Fatmawati, Warung Buncit, and finally reaching the finish line.

It was an awesome experience for me, because I got to test my limit at cycling, while also meeting the other community member and had fun together. It was not only a tough challenge for the body, but it was also a difficult challenge for the mind. Participating in this kind of event really helped me to not only train my body, but also to train my mind to never give up until the goal is reached.
