In the blink of an eye, what I anticipated would last an eternity has come to an end. The semester break has officially closed. It has been so long since I last had to set up an alarm for 5.30 in the morning. My in-denial state resulted in me having to physically drag myself out of bed and eventually to school. At the beginning of the day, I didn’t feel truly present. However, it was comforting to know that I wasn’t the only one. One of my favorite things about school has to be the familiar faces I meet everyday.
The pandemic has made me realize how important it is to cherish those moments with friends. Conversing with my fellow classmates was what really helped switch my brain back to school mode. Back in May, when we first started onsite learning, it was as if no time had passed. The conversations between everyone flowed with ease; we laughed and joked as if the two-year isolation had never occurred. Everything fell right back in place even after that 2-year time jump. So, a one-month Christmas break wasn’t a significant difference. Coming to school with knowledge that I would always have people to rely on, and survive, smile and simply pass time with is something I’m eternally grateful for. By the end of the day, I was more than a step closer to conquering the back-to-school blues. Without further ado, let semester 2 begin!
Each successive year of high school, I knew things would only get more difficult as the importance of each year appreciates in value. Grade 11, the year before the dreaded university applications that decide your fate for the next four years after high school. This year, a phrase starts to linger in the atmosphere: the future. “What do you want to major in?” “What do you want to be in the future?” These are the haunting questions you, save for those lucky individuals who have made up their minds, can only awkwardly laugh at and answer “I don’t know yet.” This semester, however, I plan to find the answer to those questions. I’ve experienced doubts. Like any other human being, I fear the regret that follows after making a wrong choice.
I know full well that this semester is going to be especially tough for me, as we will have to juggle both AS and A2 materials. We are currently starting A2 materials while simultaneously preparing for AS in the upcoming May-June session. I plan to sit for biology and physics AS this year. Besides A levels, I also plan on taking the SAT. Above all, I pray to maintain my sanity by the end of the semester. On a lighter note, I am super excited for the upcoming Premiere in February along with the various Student Organization events as I’m taking part in both of them as treasurer.
High school is one of the most unforgettable moments in your life, at least that's what I've heard. It lays the foundation of your teenage years. You smile, cry, and make life-long memories and friendships. Despite how tempting it is to only focus on the future, I plan not to neglect the present.
