The story follows by the introduction of Mateo Torrez, a teenager living in the city. He is going to die today. September 5, 2017.
Death-Cast is an organization in charge of calling people and informing them that they're going to die sometime in the next 24 hours. After hearing this information from the Death-Cast, Mateo has a day to do everything before he dies. He doesn’t really have many friends, he seldom did anything fun at all in his life. So, he pretends that he isn’t going to die and lived his life normally. Mateo haven’t really told anyone yet that he’s going to die, not even to his closest people.
He decided that he is going on an app called Last Friend that matches Deckers with another person so they do not have to spend their final day alone. The book focuses on the End Day shared by two Decker teenagers, Mateo and Rufus, who meet through Last Friend.
