(summarization of “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot”)
There was once a kindly old wizard who used his magic wisely to help his neighbors. This well-beloved wizard lived to a goodly age, then died, leaving all his chattels to his only son. Different from his father, the son hate people without magic. He won’t help his neighbors at all because he thinks that they are worthless. The son looked at what his father left for him. He was hoping for golds, but then he saw a dirty pot with a slipper inside of it.
That very night, a woman knocked on his door. She told him that her granddaughter is afflicted by a crop of warts. He ignored her and slammed the door on her face. Suddenly, he heard a loud clanging from his kitchen. To his amazement, he saw his father’s old cooking pot jumping with one feet and covered in warts. He tried his magic to stop the disgusting object, but his magic is no use at all.
The next day, an old man knocked on his door. He said that his donkey got lost and he needs it to get his job done. But of course, the wizard won’t help him at all. Then suddenly, the old pot made a loud donkey noise. Many people came to the wizard and asked for his help, but he still won’t help them. And the old pot kept him informed of the neighbors’ ills.
The wizard gave up and asked what does the pot want. The pot jump with their one feet to his neighbors house. The wizard finally understand that the pot wanted him to help his neighbors. At every house of sickness and sorrow, the wizard did his best, and gradually the cooking pot beside him stopped groaning and retching, and became quite, shiny and clean. From that day forward, the wizard helped the villagers, just like what his father used to do.
