This book is inspired by the author's childhood, which happened around 75 years ago in Singapore. The main character is named Sing. She is eight years old. She lives on Palmer Road with her family – father, mother, nine siblings, and the maidservant. They have one neighbor only – Uncle Moi's family. Sing usually plays with the fifth brother and the sixth brother.
This book tells about how a Chinese family in Singapore lives in the past – what they did, what they used to do one job and another. Sing lives in the house that her father built. This book tells their daily activity or fun activities that the father did in his childhood. This book also gives fun fact about buildings and things around Sing's house. There are The Fook Tet Soo Khek Temple (one of the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore), Keramat Habib Noh Shrine, and many more. Until now, the author still remembers the Palmer Road well.
