Hazel Grace is a survivor of stage IV thyroid cancer. Hazel is actually fed up and almost giving up on living this life. Cancer or no cancer, he will die. And cancer is increasingly closing its distance to death. But ever since he got to know Augustus Waters in the Support Group, he has become more excited about life. Just like Hazel, Augustus, who is usually called Gus, also suffers from cancer. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. One of his legs was assisted with a prosthetic leg due to an amputation. He was a former basketball player but since cancer he hates basketball. One more thing, they have a good friend named Isaac. He is also a survivor of eye cancer. Now Isaac's eyes are completely blind. The three of them met at the Support Group. A community of cancer observers under the auspices of the church. A group regularly attended by cancer survivors, including Hazel, August, and Isac. Hazel actually didn't really like attending the gathering because she found it boring, monotonous, and fed up with all the romanticization made for cancer sufferers. Hazel just wants to accept the fact that she is suffering from cancer which will make her not live long. He realized that he would die following his fellow cancer survivors. Since getting cancer, Hazel feels like she doesn't have many friends besides her family and Kaitlyn. But after meeting Augustus Waters, he felt he had a friend with the same fate, and like-mindedness. Even though their personalities are quite opposite, the similarity of fate seems to be able to grow love in each other's hearts. He and August Waters exchanged his favorite books. Augustus gives Hazel Grace the Morning Reward book. Hazel Grace gives Augustus Waters the book Incredible Misfortune (KLB). For Hazel Grace, KLB is an extraordinary story. His character is like a reflection of himself. Therefore, he was curious when the story was finished and the ending was hanging. He also didn't expect that Gus was also interested in the story and also curious. Hazel had tried to email Peter Van Houten but never returned. When Gus tried to email Van Houten's assistant to ask for the continuation of the story, unexpectedly Gus' email was returned. From the electronic correspondence, Hazel and Gus received an invitation from Peter Van Houten to come to his house if they went to Amsterdam.
The invitation was a breath of fresh air for Hazel's life. Gus has also received a Sponsor to make their wish come true from the Wish Manifest Fairy, a community of cancer children's dream come true. But it turns out it's not as easy as he thought. He should get a doctor's recommendation. After all, his lungs were too risky for such a long journey. After many considerations, Hazel finally got a breath of fresh air because the doctor allowed her to go to Holland with Mom. Many interesting and memorable things while they were in Amsterdam. But when they visited Peter Van Houten's house, they were surprised by the figure of Peter Van Houten. Not only that, there are things that are hidden by Gus on the day of their departure for Amsterdam
