The story begins with the Rebel Alliance forced to flee their base on the planet Hoth after they are discovered by the Empire. Luke is sent to Dagobah to be trained by Jedi Master Yoda while Han and Leia try to escape the Empire's pursuit. However, their attempt to seek refuge in Cloud City failed when they fell into a trap set up by Darth Vader.
Meanwhile, Luke finishes his training with Yoda and has a vision of his friends being in danger. He rushed to their aid, but met Vader in a lightsaber duel. Vader reveals that he is Luke's father, which shakes his emotions. The film ends with Luke and his friends separated, the Empire stronger than ever, and their future uncertain.
