There was a time where the universe was nothing but emptiness and darkness. There was no Heaven nor there was no earth. The Universe was just a huge egg. Then, a baby appeared. No one knows how and why, but the baby was there, and it was growing. Even though he was not awake, he kept growing and growing, feeding off the void inside the egg. After eighteen thousand years, the baby woke up. He opened his eyes and tried to open the body, but he couldn't. He let out a cry, and tried to stretched his body. The egg cracked and let out shafts of light. The baby came out and Pan Gu, the creator of the universe, was born. He reached up his hands and holds to heaven, while his feet firmly steps on the ground, growing one Zhang (a little over three meters) after each day passes, making the distance between earth and heaven one Zhang higher. The heavier particles fell to the earth, and made earth one Zhang higher each day. He stayed there for another eighteen thousand years
After eighteen thousand years, Pan Gu had become gigantic. The distance between heaven and earth has grown to ninety thousand li, or about forty five thousand kilometers. Pan Gu then scoured the earth, finding places where heaven and earth are not separated. Then, he found a chisel and an axe, which he knew Tian Di, The Supreme God, left there so Pan Gu can finish his work. He then worked day and night, so earth and heaven can be entirely separated.
