Along his life, Winston tries to be a good citizen by following laws provided by the political party when deep inside his heart and mind, he doesn't agree with the dictatorship in his country. Even so, Winston wasn't brave enough to do a revolution in public.
Not surprising that Winston wasn't brave enough considering there are lots of tools the goverment use, like hidden microphones, that makes privacy more like a fantasy than a reality. History is re-written by the political party according to the will of said party. The country have absoulte power over its citizens. Those that are different or don't have the same ideals will be subjugated.
George Orwell is famous for his books about political views, and 1984 was no different. This was a sharp satire, depicting a future country where its citizens every action, speech and thoughts are observed and controlled by the goverment. This was also the book that made George Orwell reached his peak of popularity.
