Could it be said that an essay is a written version of a speech? The idea of writing is similar to speaking which requires students to develop clear and coherent arguments, use persuasive language, and structure their ideas logically. They demand a strong understanding of the topic, an awareness of the audience, and the ability to convey thoughts effectively.

In high school, students are possibly assigned to compose essays to show their understanding towards certain issues. This might lead to a disaster once students do not prepare it carefully. Therefore, here are major steps you must do to help and improve your writing:

1. Understanding The Topic

You need to take time to think of what the topic is all about. You may start with using your own understanding, followed by gathering information from credible sources to enrich your knowledge.

2. Creating An Outline

It is crucial to organize your thoughts by outlining the main points and supporting details to give a clear structure. You can come up with single ideas, followed by supporting details for each of those ideas. It is possible to begin with your own personal interpretation or argument and provide support from the experts or clear examples.

3. Composing A Complete Essay

Once you have all of the points, put them into sentences. Here you will need to ensure your ideas are clearly expressed and logically organized. Using a different range of grammatical points and vocabulary items could provide much help. Also, you need to be able to connect between ideas, specifically in the form of paragraphs. You do not want to create ambiguity in the reader’s mind, right?

4. Checking and Revising

Looking for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and awkward phrasing is a must. This process not only helps in polishing the final piece but also enhances your skills over time. Effective revision involves reading the text multiple times, focusing on different aspects such as sentence structure, word choice, and overall coherence.
