The 70th Anniversary of BPK PENABUR and SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta
19 July 2020 marked the 70th year of BPK PENABUR. Having been teaching since 1950, BPK PENABUR has schools in 15 cities around DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java and Lampung. It was a long journey and not an easy one for BPK PENABUR. However, with perseverance BPK PENABUR is able to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
The 70th anniversary celebration was held on 19 July 2020. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration was held online using several media. It was premiered on BPK PENABUR’s official Youtube and Radio RPK FM 96.30 at 7 – 10 a.m., and YKB’s Youtube at 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The celebration was started by an online service, served by several GKIs including GKI Samanhudi, GKI Gunung Sahari, GKI Gading Serpong, GKI Perniagaan, GKI Kebon Jati, GKI Villa Melati Mas, GKI Kedoya, KGI Kepa Duri and GKI Kanaan. After the service, performances from students, alumni, teachers, employees and board of management were also shown.
The sermon was delivered by Pdt. Jotje Hanri Karuh from GKI Kebonjati. With the theme “Berani Berubah Semakin Peduli dan Berbagi” (Dare to Change, to Care and Share More), Pdt. Jotje started by justifying the significance of education. Then he highlighted how BPK PENABUR’s mission is in line with the one of the Indonesia’s Ministry of Education. Finally, he summed up five things that should be done by BPK PENABUR in its 70th year, which are:
- embracing changes,
- simultaneously committing to the process of change,
- expanding its service for society,
- improving its human resources quality, and
- involving God in every work of service.
BPK PENABUR was not the only one celebrating its 70th anniversary, as 19 July 2020 was also the 70th anniversary of SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta. The celebration was held the next day, on 20 July 2020, premiered from SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta’s official Youtube at 7 – 8.30 a.m. All students, teachers and staff members of SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta attended the celebration via Google Meet. The sermon was delivered by Pdt. Yael Lamorahan, S.Si (Teol). She delivered a comparison between wheat and weeds, in which wheat is distinct to the weeds based on its function as a food source. She then encouraged the students, especially, to be more like wheat, which means to act as children of God by bringing more kindness and compassion for everyone around them.
The service was followed by the introduction of leadership board, teachers and staff members of SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta. Then, as a celebration of its 70th anniversary, a flashback video showing how SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta has been developing along the years. At last, Satya Karya was announced. It was done to honor teachers and staff members who have served at BPK PENABUR for 10, 20 and 30 years.
The years that have passed shows how long BPK PENABUR and SMAK 1 PENABUR Jakarta have preserved in teaching young generation of Indonesia. All students, alumni, teachers and staff members hope that PENABUR will keep preserving in the future, embracing the changes to come and serve the country more in the name of God.
